I HAD "Insurance" . . . supposedly "full coverage"
and I had a nice job, too . . . right before my medical "misadventure" . . . a "health care provider" was paying $175 an hour for my expertise in developing change controls to help ensure patient safety (#irony) . . . yet cost-cutting measures led to a decision that ensured not a healthy outcome but, instead, that my baby would die
and her death was based, primarily, on"financial decisions" dictated by policies driven not by clinicians but by accountants
my Platinum American Express Card and 3 new cars and Giant screen TV's and homes in 3 states didn't really matter all that much after that
and if this could happen to me (and this was during the prior Republican administration in 2006), someone seemingly "protected"
what would happen to the "average" person barely scraping by -- at this time of my life I was in that magical "Top One Percent" of Wage Earners in America
THIS is my "response" to the Republican "victory" today -- it is all about corporate profits and even a $300,000 a year corporate executive with full insurance is not "safe" when the ONLY consideration is C O S T
losing my baby broke my heart, ruined my life and cost me at least a million dollars, probably closer to 3 million
and my best friend died 10 days ago, also (no doubt) because her health care provider was thinking in terms of dollars rather than full service for Allie :(
and so, color me "cynical" when I read about what is happening in Washington today
a lot of people will have an experience like mine . . . and their lives will be shattered, just as mine was :( !!!
